Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch today welcomed $330,000 funding to support local scholarship opportunities through the Australian Government’s Destination Australia program.
Mr Entsch said the funding would enable eight scholarships to be offered through local tertiary education providers.
“This Australian Government funding will enable scholarships worth up to $15,000 to be offered to eight students from next year,” Mr Entsch said.
“This will help Central Queensland University’s Cairns campus to attract and support students to study in our regional areas.
“The Destination Australia scholarships not only help to support students financially, but they encourage students to consider the high-quality educational opportunities available outside of the city and experience what Cairns and Far North Queensland has to offer.
“Attracting more students will benefit Cairns’ businesses, education and training providers and our regional economy, especially as we recover from COVID-19.
“These scholarships complement the additional $400 million in support to regional students and regional universities contained in our Government’s Job-ready Graduates reforms.
“I encourage students across Australia to contact Central Queensland University for more information on the scholarships, including the application process.”
Round two of the Destination Australia program will help give more than 250 students the opportunity to pursue tertiary education qualifications at 17 providers across 36 campuses in regional communities.
The funding will be provided over the next four years, with $9.5 million available for tertiary education institutions from semester one 2021.
