ALMOST 700 volunteers in Leichhardt are among nearly 100,000 across Australia benefiting from $10 million in Australian Government grants to support community organisations.
Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter, recently announced that almost 2,700 community organisations would benefit from a grant to support the work of volunteers.
Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said the Coalition Government’s investment was delivering vital support to Far Northern community organisations, which help many of our most vulnerable citizens.
“The latest round of Volunteer Grants will help 25 local groups to better support 698 of their volunteers by purchasing much-needed equipment, training and transport,” Mr Entsch said.
“The groups are based right across the electorate, from the Torres Strait to Lakeland, Mossman and Cairns, and are involved in sports, music, art, emergency services, multicultural and other community-driven activities.
“When so many groups are run on the smell of an oily rag, these grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 can go a long way towards the day-to-day operational costs for these organisations.”

“I’m glad to see that our local organisations will have this support to continue their valuable work.”
