Students at Freshwater Christian College in Brinsmead will benefit from new classrooms, staff facilities and a covered outdoor learning area thanks to a federal government grant.
Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch today announced the federal government would provide $700,000 towards two projects at Freshwater Christian College via the government’s highly-successful Capital Grants Program.
“Students and teachers thrive when their schools have modern and up-to-date facilities,” Mr Entsch said.
“Project one will see the federal government provide $665,000 towards the overall $1.89 million cost.
“This will see the construction of two primary general learning areas, two flexible learning areas, withdrawal areas, a storage area, a staff area, an undercover lunch area, covered walkways and amenities.
“It will also include site works, building services, furniture, equipment and professional fees.
Mr Entsch said project two would see the federal government provide $35,000 towards the overall $100,208 cost.
“This will see the conversion of a science room to an art room, including a staff area and storage,” he said.
“It will also include construction of a covered outdoor learning area, site works, building services, furniture, equipment and professional fees.”
Freshwater Christian College Principal Doug Holtam welcomed the federal government’s $700,000 investment.
“We are very grateful to the federal government for their generous provision,” Mr Holtam said.
“This substantial grant will further empower the Freshwater Christian College learning community to consolidate our commitment to delivering the highest quality 21st Century learning opportunities for our students.”
Mr Entsch said the federal government was proud of its Capital Grants Program, which has already benefited thousands of schools across Far North Queensland.
“The government has committed $660 million until 2021, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure,” he said.
“These upgrades will help advance Freshwater Christian College and ensure our classrooms have modern facilities.
“I congratulate Freshwater Christian College for their successful grant and look forward to seeing the impact these improvements will have in our community.”
