LOCAL MP Warren Entsch is encouraging residents and businesses in Leichhardt to ‘stay smart online’ as part of a new national awareness week from 2nd-6th June.
“It’s so important that all Australians are able to go online confidently and securely, whether they’re shopping online, doing their banking, learning or communicating,” Mr Entsch said.
“The Australian Government supports any new ways to raise public awareness about the simple steps people can take to protect their personal and financial information online.
“The Stay Smart Online website includes a free alert service, online security and safety education package, interactive quizzes, videos and self-assessment tools for businesses.”
Mr Entsch said one of the most important aspects of the Stay Smart Online website is the Alert feature, which will keep locals up to date with the latest online risks.
“People can subscribe to this service and get information on the latest scams, data breaches and other threats. The alert also provides ways to deal with these threats,” Mr Entsch said.
“For students, there’s also an educational programme called Budd: E. This is available free from the Stay Smart website, and schools in Leichhardt can order a CD-ROM online for their students.
“It’s never too early to start educating young people about being safe online everyone needs to be vigilant when it comes to protecting their personal information.”
