VOLUNTEERS play a vital role in our communities yet their work is often under-resourced.
So, to assist local organisations, Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch is pleased to announce that the Volunteer Grants program for 2013 is now open.
“I am totally committed to supporting and encouraging volunteering in Leichhardt,” Mr Entsch said today.
“These grants recognise the crucial role of volunteer organisations as a focal point in fostering social inclusion, and helping to build stronger and more resilient local communities.
“It’s also about recognising the contribution of volunteers. Many organisations rely on the time, energy and expertise of volunteers and would struggle to operate without them.”
Organisations such as Douglas Shire Meals on Wheels rely heavily on volunteers donating their time and skills.
The funding grants can help with the purchase of small equipment items, the cost of training courses and background checks for volunteers, the reimbursement of volunteers’ fuel costs incurred while carrying out volunteering work, and transport costs for volunteers with disability who are unable to drive.
The applications for Volunteer Grants 2013 will be accepted until Wednesday 24th April, 2013 at 5pm.
“If any local organisations would like more information, I’d urge them to visit the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs’ website at www.fahcsia.gov.au or contact the Volunteer Grants 2013 Hotline on 1800 183 374.”
