FEDERAL MP Warren Entsch is urging young people in Leichhardt to ‘chase their dreams’ and develop their artistic talents by applying for new creative grants worth a total of $23,500 this year.
Applications for the $8 million Creative Young Stars program are now being accepted, with grants of $500 available for individuals and $3000 for groups of six or more in Leichhardt.
“Leichhardt is full of young people who have a whole range of talents. If they are given the chance to develop those talents further, I think they’ll be able to make a fantastic contribution to our community in the future,” Mr Entsch said.
“However, I know that with times being tough lately, some families may find it difficult to meet the extra costs that come with participating in training and travelling to events. That’s why these grants will help to ease some of that financial pressure, and hopefully open the door to young people to explore their potential.”
The funding is available to young people aged 25 and under, who are seeking to take part in competitions, eisteddfods, public speaking tournaments and other cultural, artistic or academic events.
The first funding round is now open and applications can be submitted until 21st June 2013. Grants are available for 12 individuals and two groups in Leichhardt.
