The Morrison Government is providing $137,600 to Ruth’s Hub to support women and children experiencing family and domestic violence in Cairns.
Federal Women’s Safety Minister Anne Ruston said the additional funding came on top of the $281,720 the Morrison Government provided Ruth’s Women’s Shelter to set up the Hub.
“The Morrison Government is absolutely committed to making sure women and their children who have experienced or are at risk of violence can access the support they need,” Ms Ruston said.
“Through our record $1.1 billion investment we are supporting organisations around the country to prevent, intervene and respond to domestic and family violence as we seek to end the scourge on our society.
“Services like Ruth’s Hub where women in Cairns can seek information and support, the use of telephones to make important private calls and free clothing are so important to help women to get back on their feet and build a life free from violence.”
Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said when women are free from violence it provides benefits for individuals, families, business and the economy.
“That’s why we are committed to supporting organisations like Ruth’s Hub that keep women and children safe and allow the whole Cairns community to thrive,” Mr Entsch said.
“I was pleased to show Minister Ruston the incredible dedication of the team at Ruth’s Hub when she visited Cairns earlier in the year.”
