The federal government will fully-fund important upgrades to the Rondo Theatre in time for the upcoming season to ensure theatre-goers continue to access to first-class local facilities.
Federal Leichhardt Warren MP Entsch, who announced the additional $200,000 in funding today, said the upgrades were essential for the future of the Rondo Theatre.
“This federal government funding will secure the future of our much-loved theatre for the benefit of patrons and volunteers for years to come,” Mr Entsch said.
“Despite the recent events in Canberra, I used my time to knock on every to ensure that I secured this much-needed funding.
“The upgrades will bring the theatre’s facilities up to 21st century standards in LED lighting, wiring, sound and computerised control systems as well as ensuring the safety of theatre-goers and staff.
“The funding announced today will allow the theatre company to complete the upgrades, install this new equipment and conduct repairs on parts of the roof that were damaged by a recent water leak.”
Mr Entsch said the funding for these necessary works would mean all members of the Cairns Little Theatre Inc and theatre-goers will have these first-class facilities in time for the full season of upcoming productions.
“This kind of investment will boost the local economy, increase the number of theatre-goers and will add to the vibrancy of the region, supporting the artistic community to flourish,” he said.
“Cairns is home to one of the nation’s most thriving arts communities, and the Rondo Theatre is an absolutely integral part of that.
“In fact, as of June 2017, there were 819 businesses within the cultural and creative industries across the region.
“Furthermore, some 2,191 people are employed across cultural and creative occupations across the region.”
