TOURISM in Leichhardt will receive a major boost with the announcement that the Federal Government will invest $670,450 into the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Programme.
Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch welcomed the announcement and said the investment in tourism infrastructure would help attract more visitors to Tropical Queensland and provide an even better traveller experience.
“The funding will go towards four programmes aimed at helping our tourism businesses to improve their quality and capability, and take even greater advantage of the tourism boom,” said Mr Entsch.
“Local tourism operators all across Leichhardt – from Cairns to the Torres Strait – will benefit from the Tourism Industry Capability programme, which offers skill-development programmes to small-to-medium tourism operators in regional Queensland.
“The program will focus on key areas such as international readiness, ‘hero’ experiences, using digital technology, customer service, events development and trade mentoring.” Other projects that have received funding include:
• DestinationQ – taking outcomes from the 2015 DestinationQ Forum to regional areas;
• Experience Development “On Tour” – building the capacity of small-to-medium tourism businesses;
• Embracing 2018: Gold Coast Quality Service Project – Implementation of this industry-led service excellence training.
Mr Entsch said the funds are being provided through the Commonwealth’s Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure (TDDI) program which provides Queensland with $7.8 million to be invested in local projects over four years.
