AS excited children start counting down the weeks until Christmas, it’s time once again for kids to put their creativity to paper to help design Federal MP Warren Entsch’s annual Christmas Card.
“I’m very keen on this year’s theme, which is ‘A Tropical Sporting Christmas’,” Mr Entsch said.
“The theme is designed to draw on the inspiration of the Olympics and Paralympics, and capture some of the excitement kids felt watching the athletes push themselves to the limit.
“It also ties in with the general push for Cairns to become an international sports tourism hub, and reminds people that summer is a great time to experience a truly tropical Christmas in the region.”
The competition has been going now for many years and Mr Entsch said the quality and quantity of entries from around the Leichhardt electorate continued to impress him.
The competition is open to all children under the age of 12, and Mr Entsch commended Cairns Penny Savings and Loans for again coming on board as sponsor.
General Manager Peter Phillips said it was great to be involved, adding that the theme brought back memories for him of the excitement on Christmas Day when he found a new piece of sports equipment in his presents.
“From playing backyard cricket to throwing a Frisbee on the beach or kicking a footie around, there’s an outdoors element to every kid’s Christmas in the tropics,” Mr Phillips said.
Cairns Penny General Manager Peter Phillips and Warren prepare to make room for this year’s winning entries.
Great prizes are up for grabs – the winning entry will receive a $150 First Penny account; second prize is a $100 First Penny account and third prize is a $50 First Penny account. There are also another five $20 accounts as encouragement awards.
The First Penny account has been awarded the Best Kids Savings Account in Australia by Your Money Magazine and received five star rating by Cannex every year since it was introduced in 2009.
All schools will have received the application forms and conditions of entry this week so that students can start designing. This competition will close at 5pm on Friday, 2nd November.
Forms can also be collected from the office at 102 Grafton St, or downloaded as follows:
