I welcome the Defence Minister’s announcement to conduct a Force Posture Review of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The Coalition supports the proposed Review, although it is very late in being developed and should have been front and centre in the 2009 Defence White Paper. The review will assess whether the ADF is best?positioned geographically to meet Australia’s modern and future strategic and security challenges.
As the Federal Member for Leichhardt, I believe HMAS Cairns, which is home to some significant ADF shipyard facilities and deep water berths, is well placed to take on any expanded role that may be outlined in the Force Posture Review. I look forward to the outcome of this important and overdue review.
