FEDERAL Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch has warmly congratulated five local students who are recipients of a prestigious Australian Student Prize.
“This is a fantastic achievement,” Mr Entsch said. “As someone who left school at a young age, I have a real appreciation for the opportunities that education presents to young people.
“I hope that by having their achievements recognised at this level, with the prize money attached to it, doors will open for them in the future.”
The successful students in Leichhardt are:
ELISE WITTER – ST MONICA’S COLLEGE
NICHOLAS MORGAN SUMNER JONES – CAIRNS STATE HIGH SCHOOL
JESSE PRIDDLE – SAINT AUGUSTINE’S COLLEGE
DANIEL WISE – ST ANDREW’S CATHOLIC COLLEGE
YUN-HSIN TSAI – CAIRNS STATE HIGH SCHOOL
Each year since 1991 the Australian Student Prize has been awarded to 500 exceptional students across Australia, in recognition of their academic achievements. Each prize winner receives a certificate and $2000 in prize money from the Australian Government.
High-achieving Year 12 students are nominated by state and territory certification and assessment authorities. Prizes are also awarded to medal winners at the International Mathematics and Informatics, and Science Olympiads, and to International Baccalaureate Diploma Graduates who achieve the maximum score of 45.
