Applications are now open for round five of the Safer Communities Fund with communities across Far North Queensland set to share in up to $55.1 million in grants to improve public safety and security.
Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said this boost in funding for local councils and community organisations will help keep Far North Queenslanders safe.
He said grants of up to $1 million are available under the program.
“The Safer Communities Fund provides funding to community organisations, schools, pre-schools, and local councils to help implement and boost crime prevention and security initiatives such as CCTV and lighting,” Mr Entsch said.
“The aim of the program is to increase feelings of safety in Far North Queensland communities and to reduce crime, violence and anti-social behaviour.
“We all have the right to feel safe.
“This fifth round brings the total funding allocated under the Safer Communities Fund to more than $180.1 million.”
