Volunteers and their organisations across Cairns and Far North Queensland will receive part of the Morrison Government’s $20 million Volunteer Grants to support the crucial role that they play within our community.
The 2021 Volunteer Grants provide organisations with grants of between $1000 to $5000 to help organisations buy small equipment for volunteers or reimbursing volunteer fuel, transport or training costs, or support promotional activities.
Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch today announced $111,975 in funding for 28 community organisations across Cairns and Far North Queensland.
“I have seen first-hand the impact of volunteering here in Cairns and Far North Queensland and how the hard work of local volunteers continues to strengthen our community,” Mr Entsch said.
“I am extremely proud of the work undertaken by community organisations in Cairns and Far North Queensland, supporting businesses and families throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.”
Mr Entsch said the 28 successful organisations were integral to communities across Cairns and Far North Queensland communities.
“Volunteers across Leichhardt freely give their time to support local organisations in a variety of ways and make an extraordinary contribution to our community,” he said.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and by continuing to help each other and work together we are building a stronger and safer Cairns and Far North Queensland.”
Federal Families and Social Services Minister Anne Ruston said the grants recognised the crucial role Australia’s volunteers play within our society, especially this year as we move forward out of the pandemic.
“More than 8.7 million volunteers across the country freely give their time and skills to support Australians who need it most – contributing around $290 billion each year to our economy,” Ms Ruston said.
“Volunteering also plays an important role in Australia’s social landscape as a proven pathway to get people into jobs, reduce marginalisation and increase community participation.”
