LEICHHARDT MP Warren Entsch has added his own tribute to those flowing for former Liberal Senator for Queensland, Warwick Parer, who died suddenly on Friday aged 77.
“Warwick was a good friend of mine and an absolute gentleman,” Mr Entsch said.
“He was a Senator when I first entered Parliament in 1996 and became quite a mentor to me.
“He made such a valuable contribution as a Senator for Queensland for 15 years – from 1985-2000 and as the Federal Minister for Resources and Energy from 1996-98 in the Howard Government.”
Mr Parer continued to serve in the political sphere, as the President of the Queensland Liberal Party from 2006 until early 2008, and at the time of his death was the Chairman of the Board of Stanwell Corporation and the Chair of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation, Mr Entsch said.
“He was certainly a great Queenslander and will be missed. The fact that he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005 certainly shows the calibre of the man.
“I regret that I cannot attend his State Funeral this Friday but my thoughts are with his wife Kathi, their seven children and many grandchildren.”
