Federal Member for Leichhardt, Warren Entsch MP, is pleased to announce that Round 2 of the Growing Regions Program is now open for applications, offering $393 million in funding to regional and rural community infrastructure projects across Australia.
The Growing Regions Program is designed to boost regional economies by providing significant funding for community-driven infrastructure projects. Local governments and incorporated not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply for grants between $500,000 and $15 million, with projects focused on enhancing liveability, fostering social cohesion, and improving local amenities. The types of projects that may qualify for funding include libraries, parks, multi-purpose community centres, and sports and cultural facilities.
“This is an excellent opportunity for communities in Leichhardt to secure funding for projects that will strengthen our region,” Mr Entsch said. “We have seen the tremendous benefits that this program brings to regional areas, and I encourage all eligible organisations to apply for Round 2 funding.”
The second round offers some important updates following feedback from Round 1. Unlike the two-stage application process used in the first round, Round 2 features a streamlined single-stage process, making it easier and faster for applicants to apply. Additionally, special co-funding requirements are in place to support First Nations Community Controlled Organisations and low rate-based councils, ensuring broader access to this funding.
The Growing Regions Program is competitive and merit-based, ensuring transparency and fairness in the allocation of funds. All applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria carefully, available on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government’s website.
“These investments in infrastructure not only improve the quality of life for locals but also boost economic growth, create jobs, and help to build a sustainable future for regional Australia,” Mr Entsch added.
Applications for Round 2 of the Growing Regions Program are now open and will close at 5pm AEST on the 10th of October 2024. More information about the program and application process can be found on the Department’s website.
