AN elected Coalition Government will invest $400,000 to expand the fixed CCTV network across Cairns CBD today.
Making the announcement with Shadow Minister for Justice, Customs and Border Protection, Mr Michael Keenan MP today, Mr Entsch said he was thrilled to secure Federal funds.
“Crime prevention and improving community safety is a significant priority for Cairns,”
“That’s why I am proud that the Coalition will invest in improving Cairns’ existing CCTV infrastructure ? to tackle crime hot-spots and make our streets safer,” said Mr Entsch.
Mr Entsch said that CCTV was a proven deterrent to crime and help local police with their investigations if a crime is committed.
“Prevention is the best cure when it comes to crime. Cairns Regional Council and local police have been clear that our community will benefit from an expansion to the CCTV network,” Mr Entsch said.
Mr Entsch will work closely with Cairns Regional Council, the Cairns business community, the local police and the community to identify key crime hot-spots.
This significant investment is part of the Coalition’s Plan for Safer Streets and underlines our determination to support the development of Northern Australia.
