CAIRNS locals will be treated to a free sausage sizzle on the Esplanade this Friday as a ‘thank you’ for getting behind the hugely successful meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in September.
Federal Member for Leichhardt, Warren Entsch, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Steve Ciobo, will host the event together with the Mayor of Cairns Regional Council, Bob Manning.
“We want to thank the Cairns community for supporting this really important and significant event,” Mr Entsch said.
“The feedback I received from delegates and organisers was that Cairns was an absolute highlight for them – the welcome they received, the natural attractions, the food and the culture went above and beyond their expectations.”
Mr Ciobo said the Government owed local residents a great deal of gratitude.
“The participation and services provided by the community set the foundations for very successful discussions during the Cairns meeting, discussions that were finalised during the recent Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane.
“While Australia has officially handed over the presidency of the G20, the work achieved during the Cairns meeting will continue to have a significant impact globally for years to come.”
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said it was a privilege for Cairns to be chosen to host the meeting.
“Our city’s welcoming attitude helped create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere that set our city apart from other host cities,” Mayor Manning commented.
“I’ve got no doubt that we’ll reap the benefits for years down the track as delegates, support staff, media and their families choose to return to our region and explore it further.”
The sausage sizzle will be held on Friday 19th December from 12-1pm at the Sister Cities BBQ area, Cairns Esplanade, near the Helipad/Marina.
